Social Stratification

Social Stratification

The society is heterogeneous in nature we find rich and poor industrialists and peasantry, the rulers and beggars everywhere society is divided into various classes economic, political, social and religious. The process by which individuals and groups are ranked in more or less hierarchy of status is known as stratification. According to Raymond W. Murray "Social stratification is a horizontal division of society into "higher" and "lower” “social units". Sorokin pointed out "unstratified society” with real equality of its members is a myth which has never been realized in the history of mankind according to him social stratification means the differentiation of a given population into hierarchically superposed classes.
